Auto Club 400 Qualifying Report
Auto Club Speedway
Aric Almirola and the No. 43 crew unloaded the Smithfield Ford with all eyes on a top qualifying spot at Auto Club Speedway. The team focused on their qualifying efforts early on in practice on Friday, and Almirola ended practice happy with the improvements made.
During Friday’s qualifying session, Almirola attempted to make a lap twice early on, but an issue with the No. 43 Smithfield Ford prevented Almirola from completing a lap. After talking with the crew, Almirola was able to complete a lap late in Round 1. Almirola will start 31st in Sunday’s race. The team will have two practices tomorrow to fix the issue and get the No. 43 ready for the race.
1: Kyle Larson
31: Aric Almirola, No. 43 Smithfield Ford
Comments from Almirola after qualifying at Phoenix:
“There was something wrong with our car today during qualifying. When I was able to complete a lap the car was all over the place. I just couldn’t drive it. I know our guys will work hard to figure out the issue and get us back on track for the race on Sunday. I was happy with the direction we were taking in practice and think we can get back on track for the race.”
