Richard Petty Motorsports
Bank of America 500 Qualifying Report
Charlotte Motor Speedway
Charlotte Motor Speedway is hosting the fourth race of the NASCAR playoffs this weekend. It’s a “home game” for most teams, drivers and crews who are based in the Charlotte area. Richard Petty Motorsports has a fast No. 43 Smithfield Ford this weekend. Friday, the team practiced in race trim and turned in a Top-10 speed before working on qualifying.
Almirola was the 20th best driver at the end of Round 1 of qualifying and advanced to the second round. The car lost some grip and will start 24th in Sunday’s Bank of America 500.
1: Denny Hamlin
24: Aric Almirola, No. 43 Smithfield Ford
Comments from Almirola after Qualifying at Charlotte:
“We had a good first round, but our Smithfield Ford just didn’t have the same grip in the second round of qualifying. We are close though. In the final round, some of those guys ran close to same lap times we did in round one. Our car has speed, and it was quick in race trim, too. The track conditions changed so much today and practice tomorrow will be really interesting as we work on the final setup for Sunday.”
