Richard Petty Motorsports Bojangles Southern 500 Qualifying Report
Teams had two practice sessions on Friday to get ready for qualifying on Satruday and the Official NASCAR Throwback race on Sunday. Aric Almirola and the No. 43 STP Ford team utilized most of practice to get the 1984 Throwback car better in race trim. Happy with the handling, Almirola made a 17th-fast qualifying run in Round 1 and advanced to the next round. He picked up two spots to earn the 15th-place starting spot for Sunday’s Southern 500.
1: Kevin Harvick
15: Aric Almirola, No. 43 STP Ford
Comments from Almirola after qualifying at Darlington:
“We have a good race car. I was pretty happy with the car in Round 1 and put up a decent lap. We just got a little loose during our run in Round 2. But, we’re happy with a Top-15 start, and I look forward to racing on Sunday. I think we have a good car in race trim.”
