Brickyard 400 Qualifying Report
Indianapolis Motor Speedway
This weekend offers a new and different race schedule for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The Smithfield team arrived to the track on Saturday morning for their first and final practice sessions. The XFINITY Series then qualified and raced, before the Cup cars came back on the track for qualifications.
The condensed two-day schedule makes for a busy Saturday, but Aric Almirola and the No. 43 team were prepared. The team posted fast laps in practice in race trim, but were a little loose for qualifying. The team was disappointed with their qualifying effort, but are optimistic about Sunday’s Brickyard 400.
1: Kyle Busch
29: Aric Almirola, No. 43 Smithfield Ford
Comments from Almirola after qualifying at Indianapolis:
“We are more optimistic about tomorrow. We were loose this morning in qualifying trim and it was still loose this evening. We will change the car back into race trim, think about it more and make more changes we need to tonight and in the morning. We’ve proven that we can move up and have good results.”
