Richard Petty Motorsports Bristol Night Race Qualifying Report
Bristol Motor Speedway
Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series teams had two practice sessions earlier Friday. Aric Almirola was happy with the No. 43 Smithfield Ford in race trim. After a qualifying run in practice, the team worked on a plan for qualifying. Unfortunately, the weather changed a lot throughout the day, and the No. 43 Ford was too loose in qualifying. The team made an adjustment, but it wasn’t enough to advance to round 2. Almirola starts 27th under the lights.

Comments from Almirola after qualifying at Bristol:
“We just were too loose. We fought that all day. We’ve been really loose on the bottom. My car is really good on the top. In race trim, I think we are a Top 10 car. We switched into qualifying trim, and we just can’t get qualified. The car is just out of the track. It’s certainly not ideal to start that far back. I’m pretty happy with our Smithfield Ford Fusion in race trim.”
