Friday kicked off championship weekend at the Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway.  Monster Energy teams practiced during the day before qualifying under the lights.  Aric Almirola and the No. 43 Smithfield Ford team had a good practice session before going into qualifying.

Their qualifying run was a little loose, but Almirola advanced to the second round.  The car was tighter in the second round and qualified 20th.

1: Denny Hamlin
20: Aric Almirola, No. 43 Smithfield Ford

Comments from Almirola after Qualifying at Homestead-Miami:
“We came off the truck Top-10 in race trim and then started to work on qualifying. We were loose, but the car is turning well.  Our Smithfield No. 43 team wants to have a good run Sunday and go out on the best note possible.”
