Texas Motor Speedway
Aric Almirola and the No. 43 Smithfield Ford were quick off the truck in practice on Friday at Texas Motor Speedway, shooting to the top of the board while running in qualifying trim. Almirola was happy with the improvements made during practice and looked to carry the speed into Friday’s qualifying session.
Almirola ended Round 1 of qualifying 22nd and was happy with the car going into Round 2. The No. 43 Smithfield Ford improved to 18th during Round 2, but Almirola was not able to make a second run to advance to Round 3. The team will have two practices tomorrow to continue improving their speed. Almirola will start Sunday’s race from the 18th position.
1: Kevin Harvick
18: Aric Almirola, No. 43 Smithfield Ford
Comments from Almirola after qualifying at Texas:
“I felt better about today’s qualifying session. It’s the best I’ve felt this season about qualifying. I missed the bottom of one and two on my first lap in the second round, and that should’ve been my best lap. I’m excited about the speed my guys brought me, and I’m ready to move through the field during Sunday’s race.”
