Richard Petty Motorsports Pocono 400 Qualifying Report
Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr., who is filling in for the injured Aric Almirola, made his first laps in a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series car today. He and the No. 43 Smithfield team worked on the Ford Fusion during the morning practice session to prepare for the afternoon’s qualifying. Wallace put up the 12th fastest time in the first round and advanced to Round 2 in qualifying. He posted the 16th best time in Round 2, securing a Top-20 starting spot in his first Monster Energy Series race.
1: Kyle Busch
16: Darrell “Bubba” Wallace, No. 43 Smithfield Ford
Comments from Wallace after qualifying at Pocono:
“We picked up, but we should have picked up a lot more than what we did, but it’s a good starting spot. I don’t know what more I could ask for. It’s a great group of guys here. I see why Aric likes running this car because these guys are awesome. They’re a lot of fun to be around. They’re all pumped up to be here, and that’s good. It’s a good showing for our Smithfield Ford. Hopefully, RP likes it. ‘The King’ is over there smiling, I hope – maybe a little grin. A little fist bump like he gave me earlier would be good.”
