Richmond 400 Qualifying Report
Richmond International Raceway
Aric Almirola and the No. 43 Smithfield Ford looked forward to kicking the weekend off at Smithfield’s home track. The team was able to use Friday morning’s practice to improve the handling of the car for Almirola, and looked for a top spot in Friday’s qualifying session.
Hoping for some cloud coverage, Almirola and the team decided to wait till the end of Round 1 to head out on track. With just three minutes left in Round 1, Almirola made his lap and sat 22nd on the board. Unfortunately, Almirola was knocked out of the Top 24 and did not advance to Round 2. The team will have two practices on Saturday to continue working on the No. 43 Smithfield Ford. Almirola will start Sunday’s race from the 25th position.

Comments from Almirola after qualifying at Richmond:
“I always look forward to coming to Richmond, especially with it being Smithfield’s home track. I had some of the same issues in qualifying that I had in practice. The car was too loose in, and tight in the middle. The guys made good improvements on the car during practice, so we’ll keep working on it tomorrow. I’m looking forward to moving through the field on Sunday and getting a good finish.”
