Erik Jones and the No. 43 Black Entrepreneur Initiative Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE team finished in the 11th-place in the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) Toyota/Save Mart 350 at the Sonoma (Calif.)Raceway on Sunday, June 6.
The lineup for the extended 92-lap event was determined by using NASCAR’s competition-based formula, which takes into account finishing positions from the previous race (weighted 25% owner and 25% driver, 16th-place Charlotte), the ranking in team owner points (35%, 26th-place) and the fastest lap from the previous race (15%). Jones started the event at the 2.52-mile road course located in Northern California from the 18th-place on Row 9.
The 25-year-old Byron, Michigan, native was scored as high as fourth-place at the Sonoma Raceway in his fourth start at the track.
“It was a good day for our No. 43 Black Entrepreneur Initiative Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE team. We really had a good long run Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE. At the end of the day, things did not quite play out for us the way we needed with a couple of restarts and the green-white-checkered finish. Our team did not have the speed on the short run but an 11th-place finish was good – wish I could have gotten a top-10 finish. It was definitely a good improvement on the road courses and hopefully, going forward, we continue to run towards the top-10 in the running order, and continue getting better and better.”
